Why do I need HIPS if I already have an anti-virus
and firewall?
Firewalls control your network activity, antivirus protects you only
from known malicious modules. But their writers modify those modules so
quickly, that anti-viruses are unable to detect them untill you will be
infected with it. That is why you need a HIPS solution- it protects you
from all types of malicious software (malware), known and unknown, with
no signatures need, proactive way.
Do I need DefenseWall HIPS if I work under
limited-user account?
Yes, you do! It is not enough to work under limited-user account to be
really protected from malware/virus threats. It won't protect you
against passwords and game accounts hijack, ransomware, screen capturing,
keyloggers, autorun registry keys modification, privilege escalation and
keyboard/mouse input emulation attacks. Also, if you need to run some software
under full-rights (administrator) user account, you will have to enter your administrator
account password that could be intercepted by keyloggers and used by
hackers to penetrate your defense.
What kind of applications have to be put under the DefenseWall HIPS sandbox protection?
You have to sandbox your browser, e-mail, multimedia, P2P (like Bittorrent, for instance),
instant messaging and IRC clients as they can be used by the intruders to infect your computer.
Google Chrome has a sandbox defense. Do I need an additional one?
